Hi all

I got a static IP through Axxess my ISP... was my modem is showing as it's WAN IP and what I'm seeing on my outside IP is different though,

Use to be the same with dynamic IP, do they use a NAT when you sign up for static ?

I'm not sure about Axxess, but with Afrihost when I had a static ip address on my old ADSL account my wan IP on the router was always a private internal IP address, and the static public address was mapped on their side. This was a work around because of the way that Openserve works. So in summary, they use a sort of CGNAT when customers request a static IP on the Openserve network.

Might have the same result, seeing a 10.230.0.0. IP on WAN port suddenly, but my public on CloudFlare is 165.255.0.0 range. In the past it was easy for my to see I have a dynamic ip update failure as I could look at what my model is saying it's IP is and what CloudFlare thinks it is... now is going to be interesting.

Wondering, which side is now static though, both ?

From my experience with Afrihost, the WAN IP would change on every PPPOE connection (always something in the 10.*.*.* range) but the NAT'd external IP address would obviously remain the same. I assume Axxess does the same thing.

On Afrihost fibre through Vumatel aerial both IPs are the same when checking online or through Sophos gateway/firewall.

They use DHCP although it's not static per se but rather just a public IP.

Basically yes. All inbound traffic on your static IP allocation is NAT'd to your WAN interface IP (whatever is allocated) and all outbound traffic is NAT'd behind your static IP allocation.
