I've been testing my line between VOX, WebAfrica and Axxess while I would like to move to Axxess, every time I do a traceroute, it confuses me by sending me through Australia.

Am I doing something wrong or is this the upgraded network that Axxess are using? Far more hops and higher pings.

This was with a 1GB test account. I'm hoping a paid account is better.

I used Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) for all accounts:

Looking for any advice Axxess customers might have.

Routing on Axxess seems ****ed, you're being routed to aussieland

Interesting. I'm with Axxess and found the performance intermittent recently. Attributed it to Telkom upgrading the MSAN at our exchange. Will do some traceroutes tonight.

Did a traceroute last night on Axxess. Nothing strange. A few hops but certainly not going via Oz like you are getting. More like your "Other" screenshot.

Try and set your DNS to Auto Obtain from Axxess and see if that shows a different result.

Interesting. That is odd. My 1GB test account is from a few years back so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

I attempted with my router DNS set to auto and also flushed my DNS cache just to be double sure.

End of the day, I contacted Axxess for a comment and they said they'd get in touch with their upstream provider:

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I have logged this with our upstream provider to see if the traffic can be routed differently. I will notify you once they have been able to resolve this. Unfortunately this would not be a quick fix (would take a few days), due to 3rd parties in other countries being involved.

Very exciting! This thread isn't meant as a 'rage' or attack Axxess thread. I genuinely thought I was doing something wrong.

I'm keen to switchover because of the modern UI, status updates and good reports but obviously don't want to jump for a longer route around the world.

It's odd that some people aren't seeing the strange hops though and I'm hoping it's just some test account issue or something simple. Then I can make the switch!
