I have a new ADSL line.

My modem is a USB modem. On the box it says Chronos ADSL USB. I am connected to the ADSL network, but when I try to connect to Axxess, the modem send out data, but after a while it comes back and says "Error 678. The remote computer did not respond". There's no data comming back at all, as far as I can see. Axxess says they never receive a authentication request from me, and Telkom says the line is working fine.

The firewall is switched off. Axxess can't help.

Windows XP Home.

Any ideas?

I get the same error, i am running a telkom account though - so it it seems it is not service provider linked!!!

- XP home & XP Prof
- Modem : ADSL USB pots

i have got new drivers many times, i even installed a new PpPOE client (RASPPPOE)

i have had this modem installed on friends pc's and it still does the same thing.....

i have tried different accounts and still the same thing!

So far the best remedy is to unplug the usb modem and replug and then try reconect, this seems to work but not all the time

i have phoned tellkom's help line many times and each time the operator gives a different excuse for this!!!! i just gave up phoning

plz can any one help??

I have never been able to connect. Not for the past 3 days. Unfortunately Axxess does not seem to want or seem able to help, and neither does Telkom.

That is one way to make sure you dont' run out of bandwith.

Try uplug ur modem, wait a few moments... Then replug the modem in. Then wait for the modem to get the signal and become ready. Then try reconnect!

It kinda works for me, but this is a quick fix

Does any one have a real soultion?

Solution

I couldn't get this to work. So I replaced the modem. Still didn't work. Then I bought a M-Web modem, and straight away it could connect with M-Web (I obviously received a access denied error.) Phoned Axxess, they said no, I am on my own on this, as they never recieve any request from my modem.

I then phoned WebAfrica, who gave me a test account. Which I tried. Didn't work. Phoned back the support line, and they sorted it.

Tjop tjop!!

Not sure what they did, but now it works beautifully.

WebAfrica tech support rocks!!
