Hi there
I'm a new Axxess customer with a 1 meg line. I'm using my old (very old) Marconi Telkom router with a 1 meg line from Axxess. My downloading speed in torrent sites is .9kB/s-1.2kB/s. This is damn slow????????
Is there problems or setting in my router or torrent settings I can change??

Thanx

What account from Axxess are you using?
uncapped, 1 meg line. I phoned them tonight, 23:00. The technician said that while he was busy talking to me on telkom phone, he could hear line "noise". He resetted my router, and the noise disappear, and came back once the router kicked in again. He says that this noise is affecting my downloading, and I need to purchase something at telkom....???? (if you can tell me what it is called) and connect this thing to the wall socket of the line and my problem will be solved. Now I asked you this..........I used my internet download accelerator proggie to download from Nvidia site. The file was running at 90kB/ps. Why doesn't the "noise" affect this download, but only on youtube and torrents???????
Thanx

Axxess sells IS accounts...which are usually heavily shaped. You could try enabling encryption, but I doubt it'll improve the situation significantly.

He meant a line filter. You need to connect them to everything other than the DSL modem. i.e. Phone, fax, alarm etc need one.

Any telkom shop. Sometimes one can talk them into giving you one free...sometimes not.

So how come I can download at 90kB/ps with my download accelerator program a file, but in the torrents only at 2.9kb/ps-3,4kb/ps? If there is line "noise", it surely must affect my normal download aswell?

Let me try that again with a copy & paste:

In short you bought the wrong account for torrenting. You fix that problem by cancelling the account and buying a suitable one (which will cost way more).

I did not say that the line filter is the cause of the slow torrent speeds, or that adding/replacing one will fix the situation. That idea was cooked up somewhere between the Telkom dude being clueless and/or you misunderstanding him. In fact I can tell you new line filters will make zero difference...because the problem is the account itself.

I think he meant an axxess dude technician....

Thanx for replying.
One thing I noticed on my router, the green light for "DSL ACT"is blinking on an off. Is that correct?

Actually the axxess 1Mb Justuncapped @ R296 is not a bad account if you're not trying to download 24/7 (I last used it Sept 2011), but if you're on JustSurf you can forget using torrents.

Something else to consider is that a poorly seeded torrent can be pathetically slow - grin and bear it if you really need it.

I started downloaded a torrent where the seeders was 1580 and leechers 1100. But the connection was running at 1.2bk/ps

Are you sure that was not a fake torrent? Visit the "site" again and see if that torrent still exists. If it does, read the comments very carefully.

I have a 4Mbit Axxess Express account, and it has been going strong for years now. Not sure if it is rebranded under a different name since Afrihost bought them? It is only used for torrents 24/7. Years down the line, and many terabytes downloaded. I only have good things to say about it. Except for the many warning emails... until I got peer block.
