Hey Guys

Was taking a look at the axxess website i noticed that on a 512k uncapped account you can do around 100 gigs of data a month is this true because I was reading the thread about the openweb lite uncapped unshaped account and it loos like you can only do around 17-30 gigs before being shaped in the 20% group.

How does that 10 day rolling windows work also and which account would you go for

Axxess Uncapped =R296
Openweb Uncapped Lite Unshaped=I think it is around R296 also

Thanks currently on the openweb lite uncapped and just thinking maybe I might get better value for the same price at axxess

I'm on the OpenWeb uncapped standard (384) and I pulled in the region of 60gbs last month...no problem. Standard = R219 p/m...maybe that is an option? Just an observation ;)

Mostly torrents some http and no newsgroups. (Well no newsgroups yet, anyways.)

I can only say good things about OpenWeb. One thing that I would advise though -if you do change to standard - is to ask to be put on either the Mweb or Vodacom backbone, Ie. Try and avoid IS as far as possible. I can't be happier with the service or the performance!

Just email Keoma Wright. He's usually very good with replies. Ask all you need to know. They'll look after you.

Yeah...I reckon I can easily pull over 70gbs...hassle and "throttle-free" (and that's just on your 384.)

Also, I think you have to be on the "standard" accounts...I speak under correction, but I believe the "Lite" accounts are on IS -that's why they're a little cheaper.

No, not on 384. You will be shaped long before 10gigs even. These are all IS based.

Really? Well then I am somehow "getting away with murder"...because I was/am pulling torrents during business hours -obviously, during the week - ranging from 25-30kb/s...consistently. (And not locally.) ;)

Hmmmm...now I'm sitting with a problem. IF I email them, they MAY notice this and actually restrict me. If I DON'T email them, I'll never know. :erm:

What I can confirm, though, is when I do speedtest, it tells me I'm on the Vodacom network. What would this mean then?

And, on top of that, when I check my stats in the Client Zone, I have to check it under SAIX ADSL Usage, not possible to do that under IS Usage -this would indicate that I'm NOT on IS.
(Ignore all this, if I misunderstood your post. Thank you please.)

Nope...I have not come across this at all. The Speedtests you see above was done yesterday just before 1pm...I have already downloaded waaaaaaay more than 10gbs. As you can see -as indicated by the ISP - I am not on IS, it's on Vodacom. I was, in fact, downloading a torrent this afternoon around the same time, consistently around the 35kb/s mark. Now I don't know if I'm just "lucky" or what...but I have ZERO complaints and I couldn't ask for anything better -in this price range.

It is shaped -obviously, otherwise I'd be getting "full line speed" - BUT/MAAR I don't think it's AS SHAPED as other ISPs.

I can just recommend that you give them a shot...if you don't like it, you can always move elsewhere. I "researched" this issue as well, before going uncapped and came to the conclusion that OpenWeb was the way to go. (Too many people were complaining about Mweb. Those same people moved over to OpenWeb and had nothing but praise for them...and I'd have to agree with those people.)

This is just my experience...but there you have it.
Hope this helps.

I apologize if you all were specifically referring to IS only, in which case the shaping would be true -from what I hear.
I was just under the impression that we were discussing OpenWeb. ;)

Openweb resells IS bandwidth (including the shaping), as does Axxess.

Well, then I really don't know how this works. Shouldn't it then say "IS" (on the Speedtest) instead of Vodacom? Or am I completely missing the point? :wtf:

I was under impression OpenWeb resells IS as well as Mweb (and Vodacom, or at least make use of Vodacom's network?)

Maybe you can explain this to me? :erm:

Thanks SL8er the reason why I am asking is that currenty I am on OpenWeb uncapped lite and have done 10gigs for this month and being shaped to hell. But I will give standered a try at the end of the month

Thank You for the info

You bet ;)

36Gb on my 4Mb "unshapped" Axxess account so far this month, and now I'm shapped during business hours... Still saving on what I used too spend!
