I have a major concern

if I use any other account, I have no disconnects whatsoever, however
when I use my axxess account I get a dropped connection every 5 - 7
minutes that lasts for 5 seconds then I get reconnected again.

Initially I thought it was my line, so I had telkom test it with no
problems whatsoever.

it persisted so I then thought it may be my router.

so I bought a new rangemax netgear router and I am still having the
same problem.

As soon as I switch over to one of my IS accounts, I can happily play
poker without getting disconnected once over a period of 4 or 5 hours.

But with axxess my connection seems to be dropping packets more often
than my ex girlfriend used to drop her panties.

whats up with that???

a 27% packet loss is hideous!

Ping statistics for 196.25.1.1:
Packets: Sent = 464, Received = 335, Lost = 129 (27% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 29ms, Maximum = 233ms, Average = 31ms

Problem though is that while IS doesnt drop my connection, the latency is awful, while axxess drops my connection every few minutes.

I just cant have that happening if I am in a poker tournament and I am holding a pair of aces.

anyone have an alternate solution for me?

or experience the same with axxess?

crap one. best thing is to contact axxess support. see what they have to say.

i dont think its your hardware, although it might be settings.

It sounds like a setup problem.

Have a look at this: http://www.axxess.co.za/routersetup.php

Also try doing a test with only the axxess account loaded on your router and make sure you have the VPI & VCI setting correct.

If it still drops connection then phone them.

I went through those settings and my router is set up 100% the same as that guide suggests.

The only thing I do not know because they don't mention it, is what the MTU of the router should be.

mine is set to 1492

Don't know if this will help but my MTU is 1400 and my MRU is 1492

I use axxess as isp and i dont have any problems. Although i check my uptime now and it says 44 minutes...interesting...

I use axxess prepaid, and didn't have to fiddle with MTU settings and the such - and never had a serious problem so far.

Will check it out this afternoon at home and see what gives.

MTU should be lower (about 1100) if you are using wireless afaik otherwise 1400 is fine. Are you using bridged mode and dialing into access like a dial-up or is it set up on your router and you have Internet the moment you switch on?
