Azure costing - Massive increase

Luckily the 12TB is not R70K but they are whats causing the increase.
Dumb question, how are you managing 12TB? 4 and 8TB? Wouldn't it be cheaper to just go for 16TB?

Also a weird thing about Standard SSD Managed disks in terms of costing, I think probably due to May pricing change:

Still always cheaper to get 16 TiB directly rather than 12TiB based on all o f them. All above is LRS redundancy. https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/managed-disks/

I know nothing of Azure services though, never used them, but curious about the topic, that's why I'm asking.

When I started I had no idea the space I will need. So basically was working of 2 disks. When I moved the data across I increased the disks where needed. At the time max was 4TB.
This resulted in 2 * 4TB drives. When all this started I was on P50 disks and then I went to S50 drives.

Same thing happened on the second server. Hence the 3rd disk.

I also like the screenshot you used. I can see the price change effective May 1st.....but thats for the bigger drives.

Might need to change to a different disk now.

So you consider R70k per month for 12TB of hosted standard SSD storage reasonable? Interesting.

It costs 39K.

Yes it is reasonable based on what you are getting. It you are not using all the cloud infrastructure services. Then the price might be excessive.

But similarly if you buy a M Benz v class and only take one pasesnger, you really can't complain that the product costs too much.

Or for a once off capital expenditure not more than a couple of months of that amount you can put together your own rig and host it in a good DC then take the trouble to implement whatever level of redundancy you need yourself. Net result - a fraction of the monthly spend, whether R39k or R70k.

My IT budget is large. But I still choose a cloud service provider. My users travel all over the world.

But each person will have a valid opinion, because it is based on what works for them.
