Hello folks

So I am about to get myself the DSTV Explora decoder, this will in turn take place of my current HD PVR decoder.

I have some questions (apologies if they have been asked before):

1) Is it possible to transfer your already stored shows from your HD PVR decoder to the new Explora? If so, how? If not - Is it possible to just use the HD PVR decoder to play the stored shows?

2) Do I just need to transfer the smart card from the HD PVR to the new Explora, and viola - it works? If not, what need to be done.

3) Can the old HD PVR decoder be used by somebody else? I.e can another who already has access to a dish, hook up the HD PVR decoder to his/her dish, register for an account and watch DSTV? - I somehow remember that the smartcard and decoder are linked?! - is it possible to replace the link to another smartcard?

4) Any useful ideas what to do with the older decoder?

Please provide me with your insight 'ol pals....

*Edit* Yes I know I have the [ B] [ /B] in the tread heading.... thought I was being smart... didn't turn out that way

1) No
2) No
3) Yes, but it's a schlep, you've got to do an ownership transfer
4) Just extra view it with your explora, it doesn't cost any thing more

1) No, there has to be an active subscription for the recordings to play. Link the two decoders with extraview to continue using it

2) Give the call center a shout and have them link the Explora and it's new smart card to your account

Sorry for the multiple replies, I'm using my phone :)

Hello again...

So i've got my Explora decoder, however it turns out that I now need the "smart" LNB. I'm not so keen to fork out R500 bop for this, is there a work around? Or do I have to bite the bullet?

This youtube vid show that there is a 'DSTV switch' : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qF635n1xd_s

My Explora didn't include this?
1) Will this switch work with my current LNB: dual lines coming from it? If yes, where does one get one of these switches?

I have a feeling that this is going to be a expensive exercise :/

Your explora should have come with one? Where did you buy it from? The explora uses SATCR so unfortunately your existing reviewer won't work unless one of its points gives out SATCR

I got it from Takealot....

Eish, so I gotta get a new LNB then.... are there any generic ones out there that do the job for less?

I dunno. My bro had an SD PVR, I got him an explora for his birthday. He just plugged it in and it worked

Keep your LNB but get this thing, then you can run your HD PVR and Explora in extraview, maybe contact takealot and query why it wasn't included, AFAIK it is standard with the Explora

Just a note the explora stopped coming with the switch this year, dstv is promoting the new smart lnb as it is more future proof

Curious to know what is so important that you need to keep.
