About to pull the trigger on parts for a new rig. It's been about 15 years since I last built a desktop so a little out of touch. My question is, If I order a B450 mobo and a Ryzen 5600x I know I need to do a bios upgrade to enable the board to support the CPU, but how would I do that without a supported CPU in the board?

That depends,
1. You buy a MB with bios flashback you can flash from a usb stick with the press of a button and no cpu.
2. You buy a MB already flashed with a compliant bios.
3. You buy a MB from a decent place and ask them to flash it for you.
4 You buy a MB and beg/borrow/steal an older cpu to flash the MB.

#1 would be my choice as it's very handy. Which MB you got in mind and what's the MB budget?

Question: why go through the hassle of flashing a B450 instead of buying a B550?

I was looking at this MB

The reason for 450 vs 550 is the 450 is 2k and the 550 is 3.5k I dont need the extra features of the 550 and dont see the point in paying 1.5k more ronts just to avoid a bios upgrade

You'll have to ask Woot if it comes with bios version P3.70 or newer and if it doesn't ask them to flash it for you.

If you can spare another R200 rather buy this MB https://www.wootware.co.za/msi-b450...therboard.html#product_tabs_additional_tabbed

Probably the best budget b450 MB on the market and it supports bios flashback!

I have a b450 .aying around at home.
Using my 5600x, I only have two usb ports that work, and that is the two USB 3.0 ports.
All other ports don't function due to AMD USB issues.
This problem occurs with the 5xxx and 1xxx series I think.
So test the board with a 2xxx series first.
