See Takealot are offering both of the above versions of Huawei B618 routers. Which one is the better choice for local use, with Telkom Fixed-LTE?

A good question, i currently have the B525 router was looking into the B618.
But i am awaiting an antenna to see if this helps at all.

Can you lock the B525 to a specific tower, or is that an ISP setup thing, might be helpful, an antenna might also work, tho might be tedious trying all available towers to find the one that gives best results.

honestly i have no idea how to do that ... just plug play for me.

only thing ive done is switch the mhz setting. from 1800 to 2300 to see whats better.
if i remember correctly the 2300 gives better download and 1800 better upload or vice versa

Hmmm ... , just a thought, ...

Anyone gone from another router to the b618 and can show speed tests...?
I tested a B618 to possibly replace my B525 about 2 months ago. Didn't see any download speed difference so decided against spending the money on a B618. .... but that's just my experience.
Just to add, that's with a Telkom and Rain sim.

A colleague has the same setup (Telkom and B525) and recently installed an Poynting Xpol-6 antenna. Speeds went from 5Mbps to 30/35 Mbps (and sometime faster) so he is very happy. I am considering doing the same.

Also had a look at the Takealot deals.

Anybody using a Mikrotik SXT LTE antenna / modem?

What I've red... you can also do a tower lock

Speed is dictated by your connection to the tower, more than anything else. Most times the router is capable of much higher speeds than the tower supports.
