Back pain

update: the GP thinks the pain in the upper back is a muscle spasm and recommended alternating between cold and warm compresses, and using brofen (I think it is an anti-inflammatory) and panado as well as transact pouches.

You should also go see a Physio if it persists. I go to GPs for flu and such. And also stress can cause back pains - not saying it is related to stress.

The wife also had issues and in the end had to see a Physio which worked for her, being a gym monkey myself I am constantly aware of keeping your back and spine in the right place when lifting things so constantly educate the wife on correct lifting techniques which she has adopted, it gets better as the kid gets bigger especially when he/she can walk by themselves .

Go and see a physio - they can do wonders. You will be wasting your time seeing a GP.

Chiro rather - they are gods.

Who you go see depends on the nature of the problem. Try both and see what works for you.

Physios did not work for my lower back issue (slipped a disc years ago), doctors referred me to surgeons that were obviously very keen to operate (No ways jose), chiro quackery (as some people call it) was my last try and the dude sorted me out over several sessions.

To reduce back issues ensure you have good core muscles supporting your spine etc. It really does help.

It almost seems like a catch 22 to me: to prevent back pain, ensure that you have good core muscles .... but to do the exercises they recommend, you need good core muscles, otherwise the exercises are just too difficult !

When you start training, the few weeks it hurts and there is pain but after your muscles have strengthened and grown it's much better.

When I started training my back it was touch and go as it hurt and natural instinct is to try something else but I carried on and my back lower middle upper has never been stronger, when I started with a weight of 90kg it was hard, I'm now up to 200kg.

I'll put you on a motivational training program. We'll start with situps and crunchies and once you can reach past your toes with your fingers you may have that glass of red wine I placed in front of your feet :p :D

My first post mentioned doing pilates, or using a pilates ball to strengthen your core.
You can do this and not require decent core strength to start. It also helps support your back
