Back up a 25gb pst file online?

I have a 25Gb pst file from outlook, its backed up daily to my external hard drive but would prefer to back it up online. Any suggestions?
Not sure how it could work with drop box but i'm guessing since its one single file, the whole file would have to be re-uploaded not just the changes?

Get another external, back up with that once a week then store in another location.

Yes, the changes won't be saved, the whole file will be updated.

Um well unless you know another way to back-up outlook? At the moment it's one large file. But I don't know how drop box would recognize the change?
 
25GB is pretty huge. I would split it into a few archives just in case.

If your data is important enough to spend some money on, have you looked into an externally hosted Exchange server?

Edit: If you are prepared to split into various PSTs you could make a once off backup onto physical media (or Dropbox / where ever) and only sync the new PST daily.

Rather have separate pst files. Make the fist 15gigs with your oldest mails. Keep that on drop box. Then you only have 10gigs of mails locally.
 
And if you can switch to gmail. Pst files are so bloated and it's only going to get worse. With gmail you'd never worry about backing it up online as that's how it is by default. I know a lot of corporates prefer to run Outlook+Exchange but there isn't actually a good reason to do this, gmail integrates with your calender even better if you have an android and the last 10 years have had about roughly 10 minutes of downtime.

Eh, sorry. Just worked a lot with big companies and their "super-important" psts so I'm probably venting pent up bitterness in that regard.
 
My pst from 2006 grew to 6 GB and I though that was huge. Managed to delete price lists and specials and compact it down to 4 GB.

Nonetheless you can only upload a file that's not changing. 25 GB will likely take weeks. So either get rid of old stuff (especially attachments) and compact it or copy the file and sync the copy (that's not changing).
 
I asume you got info of clients or something on there, or why can't you make it smaller. 25GB sounds very big.
I know people who will rather die, than delete jokes and funny pics, someone sent them 5 or 10 years ago.
 
Apart from the bandwidth issues, the size of the PST will cause it to be very unstable. And small issue, like an improper shutdown of Outlook, will cause trouble.

I'm all for splitting the file into several PST's. When we had a POP server many years ago, we would recommend users not exceed 2Gb on their PST's, just from a stability point of view.

Just some thoughts...
 
What you can do is to only backup the daily difference in the pst file. So initially you upload the entire file to a server and then after that the file gets compared on a daily basis to determine the difference and only the difference(s) get written to the original file which is only a small amount of data.
 
Here's a really simple/neat solution, Dropbox or Google Drive and Mailstore Home are your friends.

Setup Dropbox or Google Drive, purchase enough storage and then install Mailstore Home and set its location to the Dropbox/Drive folder location, then tell it to index your PST file

this was my plan, but how would it know what the differences are?

Edit, don't know why my father thought his pst file was 25gbs, checked this morning and its 13gbs. (Work email mainly)

A 25GB PST is utterly beyond ridiculous. So is 13GB. A well-managed PST is typically well under 1GB, calendar, contacts, mails and all. Does he compact the file from time to time?

A far better investment is for your dad to spend a few hours cleaning out the crud 'n clutter and then to export into separate PSTs, say one for each calendar year. Then clean up with SCANPST. If he really wants to store on the cloud, (a) do a one-timer upload of PSTs for each past year, and (b) use a well-known reputable cloud host that won't go out of business suddenly, and (c) be prepared to spend days uploading (DSL upload speeds are very much lower than download speeds).

Frankly, daily backups to the cloud are out of the question unless he's prepared to spend a helluva lot more on bandwidth.
 
thats an allround bad idea. all the eggs in one basket and all that. delete some stuff hoarder...start a new personal file ASAP!

Software calculates the difference.

Have a look at something like zsync, not sure if it will work in your scenario, maybe someone else can chime in. I could be wrong but I think it works in the reverse of what you need.

LOL 25GB delete some stuff.. And local backups external HDD and Flash drive still best options. Do weekly backup of PST on HDD and dailt backup on Flash drive
