Hi guys, what is the easiest and fastest way to back up my blu ray collection?

I would like to make mkv files if that is possible, keeping only the main movie and not the menus and features, so that i can play the files easily on my wd live tv hub media player. I would also like to keep the 1080p resolution and keep the file under 20GB.

Thanks, tried searching on google but could not find a definative answer.

P.S. Also, this is simply to make a back up of my current blu rays not to support piracy.

I think DVD Fab can be used to rip the blu ray disks...

Then you can use Handbrake to compress to MKV (H.264).

To be honest, I actually find it far faster and easier to just download the mkv of the movie to serve as the backup, rather than fiddling with trying to back it up myself.

Have done a few blu ray discs by using DVD Fab to to rip them to the hard drive and then Handbrake to do the H.264 encoding. This works very well, resulting in files that look very close to the original. The main drawback is that subtitles are not included. Most of the time these are not really needed, but if you want them there is a process that works on the handbrake forum at <https://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=16784&p=78304&hilit>.

This adds a lot of extra work to the rip. It also means downloading and using various bits of software from the doom9 forum and some places you have never heard of before. I tried this out on a PC that was due to have it's disc reformatted, but it depends on your faith in human nature if you want to try this.
