Backbones!??

hi all,

Which in your opinion do you consider a good backbone.

i am on the verge of getting a ISP for my adsl connection.

so far my options have been All you can eat, Web africa and all the other ones like 59 etc.

My point is as follows

Which backbone (IS,UUNet,Saix) would you go for and why???

another query is, which would be better the 30gb Saix versus the uncapped UUnet ???

for hosting i would recommend IS

You are going with SAIX if you like it or not. UUNet system is not taking signups at the moment and everyone else is just a reseller for SAIX.

SAIX is much more reliable anyway, I was on UUNet and would never go with them again, for anything.

The concept of a single backbone connecting up ISP's is no longer applicable in South Africa. All major ISP's have multiple lines to each other so it's more of a spiders web than a backbone. Any of the big ISP's (SAIX, IS, and UUNet) are good choices for hosting. I'm personally hosting at UUNet currently and it's very good. The problems everyone has with UUNet is purely on the ADSL side, which is seperate from the hosting side. IS I have also dealt with in the past and they are equally good. Never personally dealt with SAIX but from friends who have their servers there they seem happy.

Thing I look for in an host:
1) Get a tour of the hosting enviroment. Is it clean? What facilities do they offer you there? Can you get 24/7 access?
2) Get a tour of support and speak to one or two people. How are things there? Look at there notice board in support, is a lot down? How do they sound on the phones?
3) Price and benefits and reseller type packages

Mweb was with UUNet for years, in the last year they announced they are moving to IS. How far that move is, is unknown. It would be a long process due to the massive size of Mweb. Mweb also does run their own server enviroments with their own peering links.

Thanks, sorry if this is a bit o/t but, if I were to move over to axxess, would i notice any difference btw UUNET/IS and the SAIX account? I always thought mweb was on SAIX. Which generally is better from a purely leisure (browsing, P2P, gaming) perspective?
