HI Guys

I am keen to hear what agent you are using if you have a similar setup. i have used Duplicati and Duplicity with Cygwin with success, but also looking for other options. Restic also seems promising.

thanks
Kitty.

Create an NFS share on the Linux server and then use something like Veeam to do a file-level backup. You get a free version

The problem is that the share does not mount on the Windows machine at times. And, users do their own things as well. I have used Duplicati with success. I am just scouting for alternatives, looking to hear what others are using.

If you are looking at backing up files from Windows PCs I've tried a couple of solutions where I've rolled my own scripts using open source software - I did Free file Sync to a NAS with snapshots, Synology Cloudstation, various deployments of Owncloud and Nextcloud and more.

All of these worked quite well up to a point but, as you're alluding to above, you need some sort of central monitoring and logging to make sure you have a view of the backup status for each endpoint. Even with the Synology offering it was (at the time) quite onerous and difficult to detect out of the box when an endpoint stopped phoning home for some reason.
