Backpack for high school - Totem vs Thule

I had one fairly similar to this that lasted me my entire school career from 1971 up to matric in 1980. The one I had however didn't have the "ring" where a shoulder strap could be attached to like in the picture. You had to carry it with your hands the whole time.

Nike.

You can get it on Takealot IIRC.
As long as they don't cram every book into it, it should work perfect.

This is the bag I had. I had 10 subjects so it really was the perfect bag since I had a ton of books and notes.

This is exactly the kind of bag I had in high school and it was mandatory to use one like this. It was absolutely forbidden to use a backpack because of fears it would spoil the image of the school.

I had one for a few months. Worst. Case. Ever.

I'd say just use a plastic packet instead of spending triple R's of money on a bag as they are cheap, lightweight and can be easily made stronger by using another packet to support it. You probably have them lying around already and it's also possible to find some in good condition for free thrown on the road or somewhere. Give them a good wash and you're ready to go. The eco triple R, reduce, reuse and recycle.

Good lord, R1599 for a bag for school, nah dude, get a Karrimore bag, it will last till grade 12 and they are like R200-350.
This.
It doesn't even have a splash-proof flap, so when caught in a thunderstorm, whatever is inside gets wet. Then again, I guess that today's youngsters will melt if they walk home in the rain.

@OP, I would try theses guys:

I've had my Thule for years and it still looks new. +1 for it.

Thule is my vote. I have a Thule bag that lasted for many years. I still have it. The zip finally gave out, but the bag itself seems brand new lol
