I downloaded baktrack 4 and wow they made it so easy to crack WLAN.
Cracked our own WLAN today just to see if it works . It did :)
One thing im battling though with is setting up a PPPOE connection so that i can connect to the net.
(i run live from the DVD)

Anyone else use backtrack and willing to point me in the right direction ?
Any other pointers might be usefull , stuff that i might not know but should.
At this stage as i said i have just played around with airodump ;)

Oh by the way , how much is the reccomended ammount of IVvs needed before its worthwhile taking a crack at the encryption key ?
We moved about 6 GB of data over the wireless and ended up with about 500 000 but i guess that was a bit overkill , at what amount of data # should i give the first try on cracking the password a go.

Doesn't it give you a encryption key? /cant you use the key to connect to the wifi from another pc and set up a normal pppoe from there?

No what i want to do is be able to surf the net via my own hardware (browsing , mails etc) while i wait for airodump to capture enough packets to run airocrack.
Basically I want to be able to entertain myself and have something to do while the pc captures packets.
hehehe

Probably better to use the vmware image instead then.
Agreed but thats another 1.5Gb download...
Also i prefer having a live CD/DVD so that if the FBI knocks at my door , i can just hold the power button down for 5 sec and destroy any evidence hehehe

You could also just boot a virtual machine from the live dvd...
