Morning.
TL: DR right at the bottom.
What if an Android user wants to backup then restore all their SMS's from one device to another, but with different Google accounts? The most popular and highest rated apps make you use the same Gmail account to backup and restore.

Currently all my 4000 messages are on SMS Backup+
It would not allow me to use my MSN or other non-Gmail accounts to login.
I'm using an Android virtual device to login to the Google Account connected to the old phone, and all is well there. I need a way to restore the messages to my new device with a different Gmail.

[TL: DR]
Need to backup and restore SMSs from old Android device to new one with different Google account. How?

Just use the same old account and then change over to the new one?

Just what I was typing.

Use old account initially and restore the data
Change Google user account on device
Remove the old account

Ok. I will try logging in and out of the old account.
I can only imagine what this would be like if I was moving from Android to iOS or (in the past) Windows Phone/Mobile. I remember not too long ago when sim cards held the SMSs, and the messages moved along with the sim to whatever device one got next.

You can store contacts and sms's on a sim card. There is limited storage though.

No so sure what you want with 4000 sms's. Must be a nightmare trying to get data from them. How do you index them? Have you considered storing the sms's in some other format?

This !! Like I have told many clients: it's pointless having TB's worth of backed up data, but no indexing system. Might as well not have it...

I upgraded my phone and those SMS's were sent/received during the last 4 years I have had the device. I remember the days before smartphones, all messages were stored on the SIM - this was limited to 32 or so SMSs before you had to delete some.
Plenty of personal info I want to keep/archive.
