I beg to differ, you can design a cheap option that works, just add solar and be amazed just how long your cheap battery lasts.
I guess if you have a solar panel on the roof and a PWM to always charge it then it might work fairly well.

I tried Lead Acid, moved over to Lithium and never looked back. I did forgot the lithium battery plugged in (during loadshedding on friday) went away for the weekend. BMS cut off the power on Saturday (internet went down). Just charged the battery when I got back and still working perfectly.

I agree lead acid is a has been technology and a wast of money .
We put in a UPS at our club and two and a half years later they are on their way out , now to replace the batteries with lithium that will last ten years .

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Unfortunately Gel batteries/ Lead Acid need to be looked after i you want them to last. I personally think they are a waste of money.

Lithium are much more forgiving (when left idle) but expensive (and you need special chargers that limit the current).

There is no "cheap" option other than running a gennie... noise and fuel costs will be the negatives.
This is fake news. LFP (LiFePO4) has a very similar voltage profile to LA which is why you can use a normal LA smart charger on them (or inverter charger). Other lithium chemistries (such as NMC) is a different story but you don't find them with LA replacements, which are all LFP chemistry.

The voltage is not the problem, but the internal resistance of the battery is very low, which means that the battery will accept very large charge currents. Hence the reason why you can charge a EV up to 80% in 45mintes. If the power supply does not limit the current then you will have max current and some supplies will simply let out the magic smoke after they overheat. If the current is limited at an acceptable max then there will be no issue, your mileage might vary.

IMHO, lets not talk about weird setups with power supplies but rather off the shelf battery chargers. Any smart charger or inverter charger designed for LA can do that. For example, you have a 5A charger, it will charge at 5A, you have a 10A charger, it will charge at 10A, you have a 100A charger, it will charge at 100A. The reason an EV can charge in 45 mins is the charger can handle 120kW. You can also plug the same EV into your wall socket and and charge at 15A, it will just take 10 times longer.

Finally found a solution for POE 48V UPS cameras at a decent price , only one camera but one is better than non .
