Does anyone know of somewhere that sells an extension cord that has a tiny battery in the housing. This is just in case of a power failure. Then say 5mins of battery power will give me time to dismount my external HD, close all the programs running on my computer and shut it down.

... and a "tiny battery" is not really gonna cut it.

Having said UPS, Google does install a battery for each PC in their data centers, I believe. Exactly how it works, I have no idea, but I imagine that it would need to supply both 12V and 5V in sufficient quantities to keep the board going.

I suspect that it has something to do with their custom designed computers, and is not generally applicable to consumer machines.
