Backup Desktop PC outlook mail to laptop

:mad:Hi all, I have just had a mother board failure on my desktop PC and have had to revert to using my seldom used laptop.
In the event of this happening again I would like to ensure that the outlook mail on my laptop has the same mail as my pc.
Ideally I would like to perform a backup from pc to laptop say once a week.
Any suggestion will be greatly appereciated.

Remove the pop account settings from outlook and set it up as IMAP. This way the mail and folder structure is stored online and any device set up with that account using IMAP can sync with the server to view emails and folders localy.

If you drag old email from the pst left behind by the pop account into the ost from the new imap account they should also be synced but it might not be a good idea if the file is very large.
I'd just duplicate the old pst and put it on the laptop so you have a mirror image of the old stuff on there too then continue fresh with imap.

Your service provider can help with the settings.
 
connect the PC drive to your laptop or another PC(hdd enclosure will work).
in control panel/folder options... diplay all files, also important system folders.

locate the pst file. copy outlook folder to desktop of laptop. locate the address book folder under user profiles. copy that too.

setup email on your laptop.
disconnect internet asap after email setup has tested.

then use the data you copied.....

Unless you set it otherwise all your mail stays in your inbox on the gmail server even after you downloaded it so you won't ever loose anything. The problem is it's not organized and it's all just sitting in the inbox.

By using imap you can start organizing it with folders. Like i said in my previous post if you set all your devices up with imap they will have access to the same set of folders.

You can do the same with Outlook.com over web app.
