Good day people, I need some advice.

Does anyone have experience with Backup external hard drives?

I need more space for my film and video projects. I current have a number of external drives but they're all running low on space and I having a tough time keeping up with all the drives.

I am currently looking at getting this; https://www.takealot.com/seagate-8tb-3-5-backup-plus-hub-desktop-external-hard-drive/PLID44311575

Maybe can some advise me on setting up a RAID rig maybe, I've seen a number of people on youtube going the RAID route. I want something that wont be moving around with me.

How much space do you actually need? ie, can everything fit onto a single 10TB drive? - if yes, then that's the best & cheapest option. Otherwise, look at multiple high capacity drives or a Raid setup or even a NAS server (if you don't want to setup RAID again if/when you upgrade your PC... There's also the risk of losing everything if one of the drives in your RAID array fails (depending on what type of RAID you use)

In my opinion getting 1 high capacity drive like a Seagate 8 TB is a bad idea, it creates a high risk single point of failiour.
Rather buy yourself a NAS server or build one from a old PC and populate it with drives according to your space needs and budget.

Personally I'll rather go for the NAS, something like a Drobo or Senology even though this will be more expensive than building your own.
First calculate how much storage you need, then look at what RAID config will suit your needs, then look at how many drive bays you need.

I looked in to getting a NAS device a couple of months ago, Senology have really nice options and 4 drive bays seams to be the sweet spot if you don't want to pay crazy money. Nice thing about a 4 bay NAS is that you can expand as your needs grow and budget allow, you can for example start out with a single 1 TB drive and later add another, then add a higher capacity like a 8 TB in future etc.
