Backup software

Synctoy is easiest, but be warned its not an actual "backup"...its a sync tool. So if the data is screwed and you sync then you overwrite the "old" backup with your screwed data. Same issue with dropbox.

Cobian is a proper backup tool and is the right way to do it...but its a sizable chunk more complicated....because it doesn't just sync it manages various versions of the backup, calculates differences etc.

If you can then suck it up and figure out cobian.

Paragon Software http://www.paragon-software.com/ does backup software, though personally I feel that their Hard Disk Manager Suite http://www.paragon-software.com/home/hdm-personal/ (which includes a 'light' version of their dedicated backup software) is a better deal.

BTW Paragon was started by the engineers that created Partition Magic years ago, so there is little that they don't know about software for hard drives !

The backup includes email. That said, I use the free edition of Safe PST Backup http://www.safepstbackup.com to backup my Outlook PST files before my daily backup. This means that (a) I don't have to search through the system backups for my PST files and (b) I have two backups of my PST files.

I use Cobian to backup all my media files on my media server at home. It can do VSS backups as well. PST backups might require you to close outlook beforehand

+1 on Cobian, and change your default locations for your most important files to dropbox / google drive / skydrive / mega folder.
This little gem works well to get your scattered important folders stuff into dropbox without having to actually copy them or move them there. It cleverly uses symlinks.
