That plan is in place for years already. Two hunting rifles and a shotgun should do it for meat and poultry. Vegy Patch is also coming on nicely now that I understand the cape weather better. Milk is a problem though.

Oh he’s the first to admit there are different challenges & things you miss. Netherlands are also going through inflation & interest rate hikes like the rest of the world. They also have energy increases and cost of living is also going up.
But … ask anyone abroad where they prefer overall?
Netherlands have electricity, water, jobs and their Home affairs / licensing work. They get services back for their tax. They have rebates and incentives to get people to invest in their country.
We seemingly do everything on our power to chase people away. It’s like our government actively sits and decides the worst decisions to implement.
Netherlands medical doesn’t seem as great - but again there is too many advantages. We have to be honest with ourselves - this country is going backwards and relatively fast.
And I was highlighting in my posts that although 120swm may not be a mansion, it’s still possible to buy an apartment overseas - after the cost of emigration and building a new life. You won’t be renting a 50sqm hole for your whole life

I'm just saying, Solar + Water tanks + security will cost you R300k max. If you want a similar sized house in Europe, you will pay a lot more than +R300k for the same size, and the weather is never going to be similar.

I think more than that ... my folks solar is more than without their water tank or security.
But even if you have that at home, no power still affects your day to day life .. travelling to work will be a nightmare with no lights and beggars trying to direct if possible . Public places like malls and office parks need to spend tons on self sustaining infrastructure to support themselves ... and those costs are indirectly coming your way. Go to look at what Redefine is needing to spend on diesel and solar on the properties they own. Hundreds of millions ... which sent the share price plummeting even more .
I dunno if that's true based on the fact that the above house was 1/3rd salary, pretty much the same as here ? Granted - it is more expensive, but you're earning a more powerful currency as well. Plus you don't have the added monthly fee's of schooling, medical, security.
True - 30% less sun to stay in a 1st world developed & working country. ... vs sunny SA that is falling apart :/

It's a place you have where you can go to, hidden out in the sticks away from cities and civilization, to get away from all the hordes of zombies which will come from where there are people.
What people in Cape Town found was that the ground water level dropped and they had to drill deeper to find water again. If every house was drawing up water the impact would have been even worse. It's one thing in a rural area. Entirely another if you have millions of households in a city doing it.
Rain water harvesting only works if you have enough space to store sufficient water until the next time it rains.

From what I recall just like the UK medical cover isn't free. There's a monthly or annual fee. It is perhaps a bit less than South Africa, but I know I wouldn't be saving much there versus what I pay in South Africa. I would save money on schooling in Netherlands because they have an excellent system with modern options. The same can't be said for the UK.
I'd consider a bit less sun to be a positive. South Africa gets unpleasantly hot in summer.

Many here would consider that a tiny house and garden. Some people consider a 500sqm plot small. Those used to living on large plots in what would be mansions in Europe are going to feel cramped in what they're likely to get in many of those countries. Netherlands and Germany did seem to have more reasonable house prices than England though. Netherlands also has short commute distances no matter where you find a house.
Not cold and not R20 million, maybe R20 mil as the Rand turns to complete sh-t.
