Hi People

I want to get myself a copy of Bad Company 2, because I want to start playing it online. My question is, how will the online experience be using an iBurst USB modem with no external antenna? I get 96-98% signal strength most of the time, and download speeds of about 40-60KB/s

Should be fine, I'm on a 384k line and it plays smoothly. What you need to worry about is latency. If you have a high ping like 100ms then you'll be in trouble. I normally get 47ms ping time to Iburst game servers and that is fine. Just remember High Ping = Lag = Bad :p

Battlefield Bad Company 2 is addictive be warned :D

You're contradicting yourself :D First you say I'll be fine then you say I must be worried about high ping. What if I do get high ping? Will I be able to do something about it? Or does that depend on the server or something? I'm kinda new to the online gaming thing

Lol speed and ping 2 different things :p You're speed is fine, so you just have to worry about your ping. Ping is the time it takes to send commands from your computer to the server. So simply put the lower the ping the quicker the response time. Not much you can do about ping being high, thats on Iburst mainly.

You'll most likely be playing locally so a high ping shouldn't be bad (Unless Iburst are doing something wrong). I'm also quite new but you get used to it very fast. Hopefully guys who play using Iburst can tell what their experiences are like playing BFBC2. Lots of the guys & girls here will help where they can just continue to ask :)

P.S If you're starting out DO NOT play on the 32 player servers yet, you will be crushed. I know so from experience ;)

@etTA Welcome to the forum.
I use Iburst for all my online gaming, mainly MW2 and BFBC2.
80-90% of the time I have no problems with speeds or lag. what you can do is go to www.pingtest.net/www.speedtest.net and run some tests. It tells you what your ping is as well as your jitter.
you can get away with a ping of 150ms locally as long as the jitter is low, if jitter is high you get packet loss.
Problems I have come across in MW2 is it sometimes holds the port open to IWnet and won't let me connect: solution switch off modem for 30 secs and try again.
With BC2 I have found the SGS servers better with regards to lag, where as the IGame servers seems to have lag now and again.
Hope this helps.

BFBC2 uses about 20-30mb per hour, if you are an iburst client you can pay an extra R99 per month and all gaming on the igame servers is then free.
MW2 uses about the same unless you are the fortunate person to be selected as host, then you looking at abour 200mb.

well i play BC2 on my PS3 and the lag isn't all that bad. my K/D is 0.98 on Rank 19 at the moment. The only thing i noticed that happens is. You may tele-port from time to time. Sometimes ill run out of a house... then switch back into the house running into a wall.. weird really.... Oh and sometimes, it seem like your running against a strong gust of wind, Then when you stop.. your character slowly moves backwards a couple of feet.

But take my advice ... avoid playing in the afternoons and before 9 pm. Its after 10 Pm at night where a lot of users leave their Iburst idle... and you can get speeds up to 125KB/s. If you have sleepless nights grab your controller/mouse, and you'll find your self kicking ass with next to no lag for most of the night!

I'm playing BC2 on iBurst, and it's fine. My ping is generally higher than others, but still very playable.
