Hi all,

My wife accidentally opened the garage door against my Black VW Polo. Nasty, single, about 20cm scratch. Doesn't look like any other damage, only the paint on the door.

Thing is, the car has a couple of scratches (although none as bad). What can one do about them? Could a decent polish help, or should it be re-sprayed? Any suggestions for a reputable place in Pta?

good luck with that boet
i had a similiar problem last year, but all the guys i spoke to said that theyd have to respray the the whole panel and then blend in the rest
so u looking upwards of R2000.
i did take it to the dent doctor in centurion and got a quote 1200 - 1400 ish and they were acuually busy awith another car that had a similiar scratch that just touched up.
so i came to the conclusion that either its too much work to just do a touch up, or these guys are charging for a full panel when the only doing a touch up??

Polish will only help if the scratch is not deeper than the paint itself so it's only effective on surface scratches. If it goes below the paint to the primer or metal you will have to respray. If it's a solid colour you might get away with a touch up, if it's metallic you are fooked as they never seem to get it right.

Get them to polish the whole car when done.

Also... phone a spot like Hatfield VW & chat to one of the sales people. Ask him/her who they use for emergency scratch repairs - it happens more than you'd like to know the day before a new car is supposed to be handed over!
