Bad sectors\clusters

Hey all

So what happens when I get bad sectors on my hdd? Do I consider replacing it? or just format and keep my fingers crossed? :o

I find once it starts it doesn't stop... move to a new drive, unless you don't mind loosing data. Keep it as a temp drive.
 
The correct way is to look for a replacement HDD as soon as bad sectors start developing at an increasing rate.

And do regular backups besides.

Spinrite is a good proggie which you can use to check on the health of your HDD on a regular basis.
 
Spinrite is good, though for a thorough check it takes AGES.

With HDD's being crazy cheap these days it's probably better to get a new drive.
 
You can also adjust the level of checks Spinrite does tho.

But trying to run Spinrite at its max setting on a 600Gb HDD will take yonks... :eek: :D

Best and quickest is to purchase a 200Gb HDD, and HDD tray as well, and then use it to dump your data quickly on a regular basis.
 
u need to do a LOW LEVEL FORMAT of yr HDD.Might take 5/6 hrs depending on how big the drive.U need to go to the manufacturs website and download the utility.Normally boots of a stiffy or CD rom
