Bad SNR on upload 10Mbps line

So finally after ages Telkom decided to switch our IMAX in Birdswood over to metro ethernet.

Now they directly put me on the 8191k download and 639k upload speed profile as they say I am too far from the exchange. I did agree because I am far but its only the upload that is forcing me to the 8191k profile. The download does not look to bad.

The upload profile on the 8191k profile is 639k and the next profile is 10239k with a upload speed of over 1000k.

Can they just like give me the 10Mbps profile with a slightly slower upload speed?

I am on the 10Mbps profile now and it dropped a couple of times because of the upload speed.....

The 8191k profile was very stable with no drops but the download is like 2Mbps slower which is actually the entry level speed people get so I am hoping to get 10Mbps speed stable. 10210 is not very helpful with just no or what do you want to do answers....

I have been on 4Mbps for years. It was the best thing ever but its not any more with huge games and streaming youtube and video in 720p and 1080p I find that 4Mbps is just enough.

I did restart my router after that screenshot and have a very stable connection now. The upload SNR went up to 7 so its ok now. I am however on the very limit of the line. A small variation like maybe rain or some kind of interference would change the stats but since this post in the morning the line did not drop once so I'm sorted for now hopefully.

Definitely not worth going to 4Mbps! You're paying for Up to 10. Rather try do whatever you can to reduce that noise margin, such as rewiring whatever telco cable you can on that line, with shielded, twisted pair CAT5e (especially if it runs past any AC plugs, Electric fences, etc)
I have a very similar line state, and unless I use the dlink (which I see you're doing too) and use a specific POTS filter that I bought in the US (I have some spares, pm me if you'd like to arrange courier), my line would never sync at 10Mbps. But now it is and all I'm wondering now is how the heck I'm going to go the next step to 20Mbps VDSL XD. I find most POTS filters just "get the job done", but this one adds a good Mbps or two more attainable rate to my line.

What's the errors looking like after a few hours to a day?
If it throws a lot of errors you'd be better off sticking to 8Mb compared to 10, otherwise you could stay there.
My upload used to be 1023 out of an attainable of 1056 and the SNR was 5.9-6.5, but it was about as stable as you could get.

Yeah the dlink is the best router for my line. Tried a netgear and the mweb free vdsl router and both were unable to sync or stay synced @ 10Mbps.

I feel I'm doing ok. I restarted my router just after I started the thread and its been on non stop without any sort of trouble at all. Stable and fast but I do see the stats drop a bit especially when the Telkom dude pulled open all the wires in the street when some one in the street had a problem.

These are the stats now and the error are low for 2 days non stop heavy traffic on the line so I think its ok. There really isn't much room left so a slight change in weather or cable could tip it over. I'm sticking to 10Mbps for now to see what will happen since I only got the 4Mbps>10Mbps upgrade on Friday.

Set your ADSL modem to use G.DMT modulation and you'll get better SNR than with ADSL2+. ADSL2+ is only useful when very near the exchange. Then you can try 10 again and see where it syncs.
