Hi and apologies if in wrong thread/forum....but as you will see my mind is clouded. Am stumped! I assisted a friend to setup a wi-fi network for his home. I set the router to ip address to: 192.168.1.100 and his TP-Link as (static) address to 192.168.1.101 - extender mode. Router is Huawei B683 & Tp-link is WA730RE. PC's set to acquire ip addresses from router.
The router is set to DNS enable. Now at my home it all works fine, am able to connect 2 x son's pc's (win7) & linux laptop perfectly to the internet, download, browse & mail, no problems at all. He takes it to his complex & switches on - He can see the SSID of router & then it disappears, unable to connect. He brings it back, I set router to address 192.168.1.200 & tp-link at 192.168.1.201 and it works fine. He takes it to his place and same result. He sees it first time then it disappears! He can see about 4 other SSID's (neighbours) however as it is in a complex. I think it could be some interference coming from them, but am not sure. I have not had this situation before. Any pointers please as my mind is completely befogged as what next to try?

Hi There,
When he is at your place does his laptop connect to the router?

I would also remove all wireless profiles on the computers and try and re-establish connections.

I would not expect interference from the neighbours.
Also why are you changing the iP address to 192.168.1.200 when at the beginning of the post you had 192.168.1.100?

Regards

Tim

Way, I read it is, on the first occassion, he set to: 192.168.1.100 and on the second occassion he set it to 192.168.1.200
I seem to recall of the the top of my head, there is a setting for remote AP's - I don't know though if that can cause inteference?

Also why are you changing the iP address to 192.168.1.200 when at the beginning of the post you had 192.168.1.100?

Regards

It seems that the wireless signal on the B683 router is not switched on. There should be a wireless icon displayed on the router panel if it is switched on. Alternatively, press the wireless button next to the power button to switch on the wireless AP.

@Tim ~ Yes, his laptop does connect at my place. Everything works perfect here, tried on Cell C, 8ta & VC simms.
Mito ~ I set up about a dozen of these, usually leave everything to default -- will go through settings again & see.
@ RTC by default wireless comes on automatically when the router is switched on, but I did ask him to check and he does see the SSID for a few seconds before it vanishes..
will give it another bash Friday afternoon
