Balance errors

Something strange happened the other day, and I was hoping someone could help me with this issue. Almost everything has been fine with my Cell C ZTE MF668 black speed stick for the past three months.

Initially I had problems installing it, and there were some issues as regards 3G (I was on EDGE for days – literally), and no throughput. But that was in May. June and July were good months.

But just the other day, this month, something odd happened. I did my usual routine of making sure I had my firewall and internet security programs up and running, browser, etc., and connected via the Cell C connection manager. I usually check my balance before going on to see if everything is the same as when I disconnected from my last session. I did this, and proceeded to download some updates for internet security programs, updates for browser plugins, and then a bit of surfing and forum ghosting.

After I was done, I disconnected and checked my balance. It was the same as it had been when I went on. This has happened to me before, and in the past I just re-checked the balance by clicking the "current balance" button again, and the correct report minus that session’s usage was displayed.

I kept checking the balance but it stayed the same. I started to worry, naturally.

Over the next few days, I noticed other anomalies. I loaded a few pages to see if it was still happening, and even though there was nothing wrong with the bandwidth monitor’s reports, the balance stayed still. But what I did was disconnect, and then connect again, and then when I loaded some pages and the like, the balance changed, and it was getting less when I checked it. Exactly how it should be.

Sometimes I can check the balance no problem and the reports are correct (approximately), other times there's a delay of sorts - it will only display properly after a while, or once I've disconnected. And like the one time above, it doesn't update.

On Wednesday, I uninstalled the Cell C modem software; reinstalled it. Same problems. I did a scan for viruses, spyware, rootkits, and didn’t find anything. Previously in the week, I contacted the Cell C rep here on the forum, and sent a couple of PMs, but there has been no reply for days, so far.

So what could be happening? I read the other day that there's an update for the connection manager. Should I try this? It's odd and only happened once in the past. Now it's happening more frequently it seems. Network issues maybe? I didn't post this in one of the stickies because I wasn't sure if it really fit there. Has anyone else noticed this, especially lately? Or is it just me?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Prepaid, on the 5GB a month deal. I forgot to mention this in case: I don't yet have a router, but am strongly considering buying one.

I was just on Cell C's website btw, and saw this in the FAQ:

"Is the traffic data correct?

The traffic counter is showing an amount of data not corresponding to your expectations:

There is a couple of things that can cause this. First of all the traffic counter stores it’s data in your personal profile on your computer. If more than one person in the household is using the modem with different user profiles you will get several traffic counter logs which sums up to your total data consumption.

Likewise, if you move your device between two or more computers each computer will have a log with the data consumption on that computer, adding them together will give you the total figure.

Even so, since different measuring points might give different results you may see a discrepancy between the data shown in your traffic counter and the data billed by your operator. Usually, mismatches are not more than five percent. Please consider the traffic counter as more of a guideline than an exact measurement."

Will be back tomorrow.

Dude... don't rely on the traffic monitor that comes with the modem. It's typically cr@p and prone to resets, software glitches... it's a plain 'ol pain. Get yourself a dedicated bandwidth monitor. Try DU Meter... believe it's free for 30days to try. Should be enough to set your mind at ease. You can Google for others.
An Android Tip for any Android readers :): 3G meter is really good and works well.

The Cell C rep, Armando, got back to me today. Gave the necessary deets, so we'll see what can be done. Now I remember reading here on MyBB somewhere that you can log in to your Cell C account on the official website. I might give that a try and see what's up, if anything.

Thanks for the replies so far, guys.

***** me. Tried to log in, checked my number and pass thoroughly. Twice it said password incorrect. Then requested temp password. Typed that in, and that didn't work either. Online account now locked for an hour. Will try again later.
