This award has become so popularity based, it has no merit really.

That said, of the nominees, Ronaldo should take this easily.

Not his fault, but Neuer's 'touches per game' (45) seems extremely high.

It would be an abomination to the game if Ronaldo doesnt get it. Messi is my favourite out of the two, but it cant be disputed that Ronaldo killed him and everyone else during the past year.

Messi IMHO was fortunate to get into the final 3, based on past glories. Hoping he continues to reach the heights he reached two seasons ago.

To be fair, even in his most average seasons he outperforms most...this last year wasn't his most outstanding but his stats are still to-die-for for any attacking player other than Ronaldo.

Guess Neuer will just have to console himself with his World Cup trophy. I kinda knew Ronaldo would win but that didn't stop me rooting for Neuer.

Not sure what a keeper would have to do to win best player in the world...no one's done it before. Probably need to make some crucial saves during a WC final penalty shoot-out or something and be amazing for the rest of the year. Midfielders and strikers are all that comes to mind when I try to remember winners.

I don't get how James Rodriguez beat Stephanie Roche for the goal of the year award. Her goal was so much more awesome than his. These awards are definitely more about fame and glamour than actual skill.
