"Floating high in the sky, tethered balloons may soon be a welcome sight for broadband users outside cities. Trials in England recently demonstrated these aerial platforms can wirelessly deliver data up to 200 times faster than an ordinary wired broadband connection"

Can't wait for real deregulation!
Someone suggest to these guys to pilot in SA!

thats not what i meant!!! wouldnt aeroplanes and helicopters crash into all these balloons flooting around?

These balloons float at an altitude of 20km, if you know a helicopter that can reach that altitude I'm sure the military would love to hear about it ;)

Hey, but what about low level balloons on tripod strings...? About 20 or 30 m about ground and hooked up to wireless... Sheesh... I think it can work...

hey rburley

yes, i think i got you... my comment was tounge in cheek... but surely i don't have 2 explain.?..

Well, think about the potential income to cost ratio on this kind of outfit. Granted there will be fair capex to start with... but there will be no telkom (at least from the balloon down)... and that's the REAL measure of profit. Some day we will hear the term "telkom index" in ict financial indicators - to indicate your reliance on Telkomosaurus. Those with low TI will be more flexible and profitable...
