Hello everyone,

Is there a way to manage the bandwidth usage of two computers on a network? The network setup works as follows:

  • A network hub is used
  • The internet source is plugged into the hub
  • Two computers are also plugged into the hub

I know this is possible by using a server, but we cannot afford to buy a new computer to use as a server. We need to find a way to manage the bandwidth usage accurately without a server.

Any advice would be appreciated!

What do you want to manage?
Data consumption or data throughput rate?

Data consumption = I used 5 GB, he/she used 6GB today.
Data throughput rate = I am currently downloading at 1024KB/s, he'she is currently downloading at 1024KB/s (instead of one using the whole line capacity).

Hey there,

The most important is the data consumption of course, but data throughput would also be useful.

Don't you have any old PC's lying around? You really don't need anything new and powerful to achieve this and it would be the best way. I know I'm not answering your question but old PC's are easy to come by, I put one together from old parts just last week.
