Hello Guys,

This is my first post on this forum. I am looking for help on how to throttle the speed of separate pc connected to my lan network based on file extension e.g *.mp3 or *.mp4, *.flv to download at a certain speed and site with video streaming as well while http request will be given the highest priority. I run a 4mgb line and my adsl modem assign ip address and connect to the internet. So the line is basically open with no bandwidth management software. Anybody can download as they like so I am looking for a way to restrict this.

Secondly due to the high bandwidths I consume on a daily basis I am looking for a local vpn connection that will connect me to international site as most of the uncapped adsl that I have purchased are throttled during the day that I need to use them

Pls any suggestion will be appreciated.

How do I setup squid on windows

thanks so much for reading thru my post. How do i setup on squid on windows.

Regards,

Dude, I'm not trying to be mean... but you don't really sound like you have the know-how to do this? do you have a friend who can help you?

I know but even the squid for Windows setup is going to be pretty messy. What is your knowledge of Networking in Windows like? Even I'm scared of it.

I have an advanced networking knowledge

I would think you just download and install. I haven't used SquidNT in years.

I suggest you:
1) get a working squid proxy server
2) set up an ACL for the files you want slowed down (mp3,flv)
3) add a delay pool for the ACL

If you expect me to spoon-feed you, you are out of luck. If you have read the manual/help and you still can't find an answer, feel free to ask!

A good place to start is http://www.squid-cache.org/
