Hi all,

For some reason, my router usage stats are vastly different to my ISP stats. Its showing a total usage of 3GB on our router, but 9GB on the ISP usage page (which im certain it isnt).

What would cause these discrepancies?

Might be that your router resets usage statistics after reboot.

other than the statistics being reset on your router, I cant see how your ISP can be that far off with usage.

Typically the usage should be higher on your router than on your ISP, due to the packet overheads of ADSL+PPPoE connections.

Also check your ISP stats and ensure that your account is only being used by your land line number. All the good ADSL data providers should have that functionality in their usage portal.

If you are perhaps dialing the PPPoE connection from your PC (like when your modem is in bridge or half-bridge mode), then your router most likely won't track the usage either.

There is one ISP where I have proven that they overreport usage by as much as 30%. They seem to specifically overreport when it comes to SSL and VPN traffic. Not going to mention names but it is rather obvious.

Only saw your reply now, I think I'm using the ISP you mention, however I'm not using any SSL (not much anyway) or VPN traffic.

To add to this, when we had 10GB cap, we used 40GB in a month (used LTE the final 3 weeks of the month) and now that we have upped our cap to 100GB we are using a shade over that in a month, with no new users or software on the network.
