Who exacly does Telkom pay for bandwidth, and who provides it?
Im new here so im not to sure.
Surely a company like Telkom which is so big can supply its own bandwidth(seeing they make so much profit)
What im trying to say is who is the source, and is it such a big thing for a company to make bandwidth.Surely the equipment needed to do this is costly but doesnt it make sense for Telkom to start supplying its own,if this is possible?

In order to "make" bandwidth one has to lay submarine cables or launch communication satellites, neither of which is a viable endeavor for all but the largest worldwide telecommunication providers. Take for example the new SAT-3/WASC/SAFE submarine cable which connects Africa to the UK and Far East, it cost in the region of $600 million to complete and that doesn't include maintainence costs. That's hard pill to swallow even for Telkom. What usually happens is the larger global providers invest in the infrastructure and smaller providers purchase chunks of bandwidth from them.

With the trend, which South Africa is growing and become educated, we need 5 more of those cables. To Compete in the international market we need to be in par.
The Hedunas (Telkom Management) still thinks we use the Internet to surf and surf only. I surf but I want to send big files back and forward so for that busyness I need a leased line, which is to damn expensive. Well money always talks now never later

I say Lets burn them

Time will burn them if they don't start working more productively. All we need is favourible legislation and the ball will roll on its own. The best provider of service is the FREE MARKET. If new telcoms companies are allowed access to SA you will see Telkom working harder, faster and cheaper to earn its living!

Cheers
