Hi all

Well being labelled by WbS as a bandwidth hog it’s funny that since they reconnected all the disgruntled users that the capping service seems to work fine. So who is really to blame? I thought there was more than enough bandwidth for all the users. So if all the wbs users connect at the same time what will our speeds be, If I’m downloading at 100kB/s is that not what im paying for a 1Mb connection. Okay so I went over my cap must I now stop d/l just because I reached my cap, come on let everybody do their job or does wbs expect us to do that for them as well. Seems every time there is a crisis at WbS the users get blamed. Been struggling to get reconnected for two days now can't complain about the service there wasn't any. Got told to check my e-mail of course the reply was with what connection. :D .

I must say since having the connection since last year already a person gets used to the uncapped service. Maybe now is the time to move back to a adsl-uncapped version.

Don't let your lack of planning become my emergency.

I'd blame WBS they should of known b4 if there cap was in place, they must have monitor system, where they track how much bandwidth one user can use per account and keep the one who users the most on top of the place like this have the 20000 users on one system thats montiro bandwidth on plasma screen or something;)
:
We all got use to the UNCAP version during PRE-LAUNCH but W.B.S did this as marketing to steal users from ADSL, & DIAL Up how nice look at this UNCAP broadband at 1 meg for only R400 +- during the PRE-LAUNCH it was nice. I've to say but the CAP has to be in place since when it was NO CAP. WBS were running at serious loss with the bandwidth if each user used up or consumed about 100 gig per month +- you work out how much WBS paid for your bandwidth :)

Does it mean we have become complacent and just accept everything that happens around us, even with the cap off my usage was 9-11GB.But we as consumers are too quick to sit back and accept fate and the bulling tactics from large corporations? My question like a lot of others is will wbs ever be able to supply what they promised if you pay for a 1M/b connection isn’t that what you should get not 13KB/s. Even if you throttle people at 64Kb/s there is still going to be downloading. Are they now going to implement a second cap to disconnect the user completely as the system might and most probably will get abused? Africa is a tough country lets get real. According to some reports only 25% of they clients will ever reach their caps so how much bandwidth are they really providing.

misinformation

This whole disconnection saga just seems like a completely surreal joke. The mind boggles when you think that this (WBS or whoever) is actually a trying to be a competitive business in this world.

They advertise a product whos conditions, stated plainly on their website, result in almost every customer coming to the same conclusion of how this bandwidth regulating thing is suposed to work. Then clearly inneficient in providing a proffesional service and coping with whatever the problem is, exploit a blatent ambiguity in the contract and accuse numerous suscribers of abusing the service by being "irresponsible"

I may not even be a subscriber to iBurst but EXCUSE ME MR WBS! .Since when do you call the people who pay your bills "irresponsible" and "abusers" when all they are doing is using that service supplied by you in no way illegal or contrary to how a broadband connection of the kind should be operated !.

Apparently Joe Bloggs (who just wants a speedy iBurst connection and has no clue how everything behind the modem works) must now be competent in managing an ISP efficiently so as not to contribute to the "degredation in service" for others by being "irresponsible".

So if WBS would like their subscribers to help in the management of their system i suggest WBS start paying them .

Unfortunatly all i can see this saga as, is a plain and simple effort to protect profits, even if that means making a few enemies along the way and acting like a child when a few people try to spoil your party.

Theres my 2 cents. thank u very much.

Ignore them and continue downloading 24/7. That's what I'm gonna do!
A true rebel...

Got reconnected yesterday & I'm already on 500MB so WBS employees, pi$$ the f##k off! I'll go over a gig by the end of the day.

BTW .. a quick one ... NOT everyone has been reconnected, it would seem that there are still people who are "internetless" at the moment. :(

Hi all

Heard the other day some clients in Sandton got slow speeds and it was said that there was a problem with the tower but then suddenly they had to put up another tower to accommodate all the clients. So a person must first complain about it before anything gets done. Apparently Thami’s response to the recent disconnection of services was quite clear rather have 150 unhappy people than have 3000 unhappy people. What a joke because there was no improvement in their service or connection speeds. According to some clause built into their contracts is states that they can disconnect services if being abused.fair enough what if they run out of bandwidth again this month will people who used 4Gig suddenly be labelled as abusers and be disconnected. Quite a nice clause to suit them when and where they want it.

wait... i have heard this all somewhere before... dont tell me..

anyways i am happy with iburst... maybe not with wbs... but then i am not happy with any company who want money from me monthly so nope... i am not happy with wbs... but iburst is ... well... bursting... :)

well i bought the extra 1gb bandwidth... and promptly used it by friday (23/4/2005). Apparently I'm capped now as the bandwidth meter says I have zero available.

I think the big question is "How long before I get suspended after I've reached my cap?"

Has anybody been suspended again after they bought additional bandwidth ?

How does iBurst define "abuse" though ? Apparently it is the "inordinate amount of bandwidth used". I'm post cap (throttled) and I've already downloaded about 3GB, does that mean i've been abusing the service ?

I'll be the first one. :D

scavern & rebel, keep us posted (assuming you arent disconnected :P ) - shaun green and dylan have both promised faithfully and clearly that nobody will be disconnected again, even after they've gone over their cap/bought bandwidth. So if it happens, they are ones to phone instantly..
time will tell..
