Good day,

I was hoping to get some advice. I am on a budget to upgrade Mobo, CPU and RAM. I have managed to put the following systems together. I am not a fanboy and do not have any loyalty to a brand, so which ever one gives me the best deal I will go with it. Each system will cost me around R3070.00:

Intel:
1) Intel P67BA BuffAlo Flat Retail pack ; LGA1155 mb ; intel P67-B3 , with Back-to-BIOS switch , 4x dual channel DDR3-1333 , 6x s-ata with raid 0/1//0+1/5/10 ( 2x SATA6G + 3x SATA3G + 1x eSATA ) , on-board 10ch (7.1+2) audio with optical s/pdif out + gigabit lan + ieee1394a ; 3x pci , 2 x pci-e(1x) , 1 x pci-e 2.0 (16x) , with 2x USB3.0 + 6x USB2.0 , no PS2 - atx

2) Intel Sandybridge lga1155 i5-2320 - Quad core / 4threads , 3.0ghz

3) Corsair CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 , XMS3 with heatsink , 4Gb x 2 kit - support Intel XMP ( eXtreme Memory Profiles ), ddr3-1333

AMD:
1) Asus M5A97 - Dual Intelligent Processors with TPU+EPU , UEFi mouse-controlled bios
for AM3 / AM3+ , on-board core unlocker button , support SATA6G+Usb3.0 , hypertransport 3.0, clear CMOS button ; amd970 + SB950 chipset , 4x dual channel DDR3-2133(O.C)/1866 , 6 x s-ata6G with raid 0/1/0+1/5/10 , on-board ALC887 7.1 audio with optical s/pdif out + gigabit lan ; 2x pci-e (1x) , 2x pci-e 2.0 2.0 ( 16x+4x ) , 2x pci , with TPU+ EPU+ Express gate + Turbo key + Turbo-V - atx

2) Amd Zambezi / socket AM3+ , FX-4100 - 4x cores ( 3.6Ghz , 3.8Ghz turbo core ) Black edition

3) Corsair CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 , XMS3 with heatsink , 4Gb x 2 kit - support Intel XMP ( eXtreme Memory Profiles ), ddr3-1333

4) Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo , RR-212E-20PK , CPU Cooler

Thanks.

I'd take the AMD, but drop the cooler and get a cpu with more cores. Maybe 6 or 8.

imo very good sensible build.
Both have usb3.0 and Sata 6G and four RAM slots.
Either one is good.

My deciding factor will probably be which socket wil be supported the longest. LGA1155 or AM3+
This will influence my cooler decision for possible upgrade in the future to a six or eigth core AM3+.

The second Pci-e 2.0 slot on the second mobo might also decide.

Hi SouldaFusion, why not look at this thread regarding pricing and options. Or fill out the template. The PC Build Thread

go for the river, i would like to see how that little fx-4100 performs

Hey,

I'm leaning more towards the AMD. I have never owned one so it will be delving into the unknown. I think the i5 is decent but within my bracket the board is really stock standard. With the AMD the board seems quite a bit better. I was also reading that the fx-4100 isn't great stock but can be OC'ed by 1Ghz without much hassle, hence the cooler.

Rather get the AMD cpu with more cores. You should be able to get plenty of mhz with the stock cooler. Cores mean more than mhz.
