Vodacom have won me over hook line and sinker BUT there is still one place I would like to see improvement.
I do have an MTN sim card in my wifes phone and carry a bomed out 3210 with a mtn sim card in it to recieve sms.
I use GPRS to send email to SMS via the MTN service which allows me UNLIMITED email to sms at .5 c per sms via GPRS.
vodacom allows the same but am limited to a miserable 3 email to SMS per day.
a relook at this ploicy could increase vodacoms data uasage (and profits)and finaly allow me to chuck the MTN sim card in the dust bin where it belongs.

I'll pass your request on. If you do a lot of SMS's, I've seen people setting up their own SMS server on a PC with a messenger contract.

bits and bytes

sending a short message via GPRS from my t610 via email eg [email protected] [email protected](MTN)
will amount up to about +- 4000 bytes out and +- 1000 bytes in.
given that its limited to 140 char you can not type much.
that makes a 4.8 k message, give or take a few bytes.
paying R0.80 per meg (mymeg 250) and 4.8k goes into 1 meg 213 times so total cost = 80 c /213 = R 0.0038 lets round that off to .5 c per sms.
MTN you need a valid MTN sim card and register on their web site.
you allow your email address access privelages and va va voom you can emai-sms to all MTN numbers unlimited amount of times whereas vodacom has a 3 times limit per day.
MTN use the rest of the 160 char limit to attach some ads.
revenue made from an apparent free service
I can deal with 20 letters of ads for a .5 c sms.

Does anybody know if Cell C has email-to-sms functions?

I'm considering loading an old (Vodacom!) phone with MTN prepaid, and possibly another oldie with CellC prepaid if it will get me free email-to-sms to their networks.

Unless CellC have stealthily snuck an email2sms service past me, the answer is no.

PS: I don't think CellC even knew that bus existed, let alone actually got aboard.
