When the bank needs my approval for a transaction, they send me an SMS (or is it an MMI?) which says something like:
Code:
0: Reject
1: Accept

There is normally a field to enter "1" in and a button that says "Send". On receipt of a "1", the transaction is accepted.

I've recently swapped my cell with a sibbling's Samsung.

Now, instead of the Reject/Accept message, I now get garbage:
Code:
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
@@
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
@@@
...etc...

If I enter a one and press "Send", I get an error message which says "Connection problem or invalid MMI code"

Is there a setting on the 'phone which is incorrectly configured?

If it is Nedbank, you need to re-authorise your device via online banking and the Nedbank app. I think it is linked to both sim and device to try and avoid sim swap fraud.

So anyone wanting to do an illegal sim swap needs the sim, access to the banking app and access to the online banking profile.
