Apply for movie club card online for free.
Ticket is R100 on Tuesday. Coke, chips and chocs at Clicks for R30. Smuggle in home-made popcorn if you must although not necessary
Total = R130.

Less if not IMAX.
While this is a good idea; what happens if there is only 1 - 3 good movies a year?

Which is also at most the number of times I would normally go. You'll be paying for the membership/club without benefit and actually adding to the cost:

Edgars basic/entrance is R50 ppm

For 3x great movies per year at 200 zar a ticket:

12 - 3 = 9 (12 months minus 3 good ones)

9 * 100 = 900 (50ppm, two persons for 9 months)

200 - 40% = 120 (200 zar ticket minus discount)

900 + 120 + 120 +120 + 300* = 1560 (9 months sub without going added to the 3x good)

1560 / 3 = 520 zar per ticket

For one year if you go 3x times it would actually be 520 per ticket. You now see why I said "I'm not going to sub to something like edgars and only save a little if you do the whole ROI math."

*** I see I left out the 3x (50 x 2) for the remaining 3x months out of 12 months for the 3x good times which is 300 and should be added along side their discounted ticket pricing. You are basically paying 1 200 a year to get discounted ticket prices, if you don't go and see enough movies to make up for this amount it is rather silly to sub in the first place. e.g. one good flick a year would be cheaper at its original price with drinks. Besides if we are talking about 600 zar for two persons I'd rather go to the pub or waste that on gaming. 2 to 3 hours at cinema with people; I'd rather swapout for better times.

You're overthinking it. Just ignore Edgars and get 2 free movie club memberships.
Only issue is you're restricted to watching on a Tuesday night which is fine since there's really only 2 or 3 movies a year that's worthwhile on the big screen, IMAX or otherwise.
You don't even need to take snacks in.

Total is R600/year for 2 people to watch 3 IMAX movies.

Just gonna throw my hat into the ring here.

I don't care for signing up for anything.

I watch a bioscope film roughly every 2/3 months & my go to is N1 City.

Watching Opp tomorrow, price went up slightly to R69 which is still top value.

Additionally N1 City is very central + no paid parking (upper deck). I don't buy any bioscope treats, I bring my own stuff in.

Works perfect for me:

I made my choice (below).

A lengthy watch but it needed to be, lots of complexity & layers. There is a high level of brilliance here.

Fascinating story, great storytelling, the huge ensemble cast is on point. MVP must go to Cillian Murphy, his best performance to date, absolutely on the mark. 2nd to RDJ.

The sound design plays a huge part in the film. I particularly loved the chess-like structure of the final act.

Well done Christopher Nolan, it lived up to the massive hype & acclaim.

An 8/10 from me.

Martin is an idiot for jumping on the Barbie versus Oppenheimer bandwagon. Jesus.

So, how was it? The movie, not your own stuff that you brought in :)

I don't know how i feel about Oppenheimer, the visuals and score were fantastic but I didnt think there was much of a story or i was waiting for something else to happen.

Maybe I'm just used to watching too many action movies.
