Hi dude, according to the signal indicator thingy on the PC, I have great signal on base station 12.... but it's not operational?!!!!

The closest tower is Radiokop, you mean to tell me Radiokop is NOT operational????!!!!!!!

I keep getting "remote computer did not respond"

and the building I'm at at work drinks signals like cool-aide, so unless I sit outside, I won't get a signal!!!!!

HELP!

No-one

Let me just get this right. You live in Radiokop, thats right next to the sentech compound in Honeydew? I am in Wilgeheuwel about 1km as the crow flies from the compound and according to the zone locator my location has an "operational good" signal. Please dont tell me that after all my fighting with a countless number of people that I will receive my modem I will not be able to connect.

If it says "Operational Good" AND "Planned 1st Quater 2004" you're ****ed....

I checked RadioKop, says the above... I'm about 4.7km away from the Radiokop tower...

And I feel your pain, just that, I have a 1500 rand pain at the end of the month (or beginning, not sure when they're deducting the cash)

noone, what you could do is get a patch antenae for work. Get it installed outside on the roof or where ever. It should work great that way!

In a couple of months the whole of jhb should be covered. Giving it up now, you loose R500 + R70(delivery charge?)

By getting a patch antanae you will get better signal as well as being connected within the building!

..- dot dot dash ;)

No you see, I get a 4 bar signal strength (which is the best) and 30% (which is good according to the techies)

The thing is, I might be picking up this signal from Floracliffe, and not Radiokop, so I'm trying to find out which Basestation is #12. Because on the map it looks like I'm closer to Floracliffe than Radiokop, and because it works like a cellphone, it chooses the faster route.

And that is probably the reason why my zone locator says "Operational:good and planned 1st quater" is because I have overlapping towers, great if one goes down, but hell, JUST ACTIVATE THE DAMN THING!

lol, I spoke with some people and they'll find out for me exactly, but they said that 40 or so towers are being activated by end of this week, which COULD include mine, we should just check.....

hold thumbs

noone - I dont know Gauteng at all - let me see in the morning what I can find out.
As for the 40 towers, I think what your contact meant was a total of 40 towers to date by this weekend.

Btw, it would also help if you guys activated your mail icons [;)]

LordZorg, nope, 1500 (roughly) I have the 512kb package.

ProAsm, [email protected] (for future reference)

Please see the new topic I am posting right now for more information, it would help if the support desk knew this.

Then how come my signal is at 30% at base station 12? I live quite a bit away from that place (constantia kloof, roodepoort)

Speaking under correction here, but it has to do with the extended cell being active for that tower (ProAsm might be able to correct me). You're picking up the extended cell signal for that tower, but authentication for the extended cell is not (and most likely will not) be activated. I'm not sure why you aren't picking up a closer tower though...

Stated in another thread, I can basically see Randburg from where I am, could it be that that is the reason?

The hill kinda bends away from the radiokop tower which could be why my modem jumps to the "closest" cell?

would be great if all towers had authentication on them, cause then people close to that tower won't have to worry about not being able to connect

Might be.

Mintek looks like its most definitely too far away for you to connect to, but I believe there are towers at both Radiokop and Northcliff.

The only reason that I can think of that you aren't getting signals from them are that they are being interfered with by something in between yourself and those towers (hills etc).

If you have a notebook, take a drive towards northcliff, and check at various points if your basestation number changes.

well, i basically overlook northcliff (can see the big water tower on the side of the hill and everything)

these base station numbers aren't making sense, because base station 82 is active and I succesfully registered last night after they fixed and then broke the towers again

anyone know where #82 is... locking on to it from all over
