is there at basestation at sentech in honeydew/radiokop? (they have a tower there, next to there satellite farm) and if so what number?
 
JHB, Cape Town and Durban are all well and good, but about the rest of us ... I was wondering when and where the next phases of the rollout will be?

Someone suggested that Sentech aims to cover roughly the area that the current GSMs are covering. True or not, when can we expect towns in inland KZN (Ladysmith, Newcastle, etc.) to be covered?

Is there a schedule for deployment over the next year or so?

Well I asked ProAsm last week in an e-mail about Ladysmith. Well, he replied saying he has no idea, but probably Mid 2005[V]

A clear conscience is a sign of bad memory!
 
Thanks for the Information proasm. Now, some of the basestations have the same number. Does that mean that they effectively are the same tower, or just have the same identifier. Are they setup as a "cluster" then?

Btw, might a good idea to build this list into that monitoring utility of yours (if it isn't already) :)
 
Does the modem automaticaly pickup the tower with the strongest signal ? As far as i know i am closer to [82] Sentech (Main) yet my modem connects to one of the 110 antenna's.
 
Yes the modem will lock onto the strongest signal.

Regarding putting the base Station names into the proggy is difficult simply because many share the same number so what does it look for in the table as the idea was that the proggy would have an ini file that I just update as new towers go in but with some many using the same numbers its very difficult to look up say 82 in a table as it will select the first one which could be in Durban when you are in JHB [:(]

Why so many share the same number I have no idea.
I mean we have a 126 and a 82 in Durban - how can that be a cluster etc [^]
 
Wht dont you catagorize your region in provinces

[Gauteng]

[Durbies]
...

And then for one's that's similar in that province of what the guy is (Let him specifiy :)
Just say connected to address&address ?
 
What happens once we have a couple of 100 cities/town up and each one has a Base Station 82 or maybe even 2 each.
After your last post I had a look at the software and I see each Base Station also sends an offset but then again the offsets are also the same for each Base Station number - wierd.
Maybe its time to whisper in someones ear and get this changed, as I agree, would be nice to see what actual tower you are connected to.
 
Whisper away. I mean, at some point technical support is going to start battling when they have to check 6 station "82"'s (which are nonexistent [:)]) when a customer has a problem.
 
Tell me about it. I lost signal on Monday. First question support asked me is whether I checked for coverage.... I then told me I'd been running for a week already, and that I've had signal. They then checked my tower (126), and said all was fine. Most probably checked the wrong 126.

Luckily I was back on-line Tue, as I got the impression that they couldn't be bothered. Only advice was to move the mode around.....

heya

eventually got my modem, im getting 4 bars on the modem.. 18% signal strength. All is good. i dbl click to connect,"remote computer did not respond" blah blah blah. Im connecting to base station 82 , tech support say that the tower is not recoginzing my modem cause on the coverage map is says Planned good 1st quater, so the chick said it will be up my the end of march [xx(] arf. to long [B)]

Drak, i've been through the same **** you have been now

TECH SUPPORT KNOWS ****ALL

Trust me, if you are covered by one or more towers (some of them going up in march) it will say, operational good AND planned first quater

as far as I know, tower 82 is up an running. I'm in constantia kloof (close to the hyperama in roodepoort)

and i see towers 12, 82 and 66. So far, 66 is the only one i seem to connect to without any problems.

Thus, move your modem around till you find another base station, and try again.

Only Basil/JP and the sales rep Clinton know what the hell they're talking about....

yeah tech support arnt the greatest.. i moved my modem outside tonight with a lappy and connected 100% quick and easy when i connected to base station 12. [:D] Pity my dad left all the registration details at his office [:(] so gonna go tomorrow and fetch it and then become l337 [:p]. heheh
