Basic ADSL Router

Hi there, i was about to order a router for a friend of mine when I realised that I may be falsely assuming that all routers have the ability to work in "modem only" mode as it's called on my Netgear DG834, in other words where you can set up a dial up connection in windows xp and connect and disconnect to the ISP in order to use Routesentry for example. Is this the case? I'd like to order his router for him ASAP but I would like to know if this is in fact true, and if not, if this router will do the job: D-link DSL-2500U or D-Link Di-604

Just look if it has a bridge mode function - if it does its cool and will work.

a D-link DSL 300T is a reliable simple router. Havent had any problem with mine, all it lacks are facilites to check SNR and line attenuation.

The Billion 5200S is the simplest reliable ADSL modem i know of. It's got load of features and it's cheap(ish).
You can bridge the modem
