Hey guys

Firstly a little background:
I’m looking to setup my own corporate APN for a product that I am currently developing in my spare time.
I basically have a bunch of sensors that are out in the field that sends small amounts of data via a SIM card to an app that I’m running on a server in the cloud.

I would like to setup my own corporate APN for all the SIM cards in the sensors.

So I’ve got some very newbie questions:
  1. Is a corporate APN simple to setup, and how long does the whole process take?
  2. Am I correct in assuming that with my own corporate APN I’ll get a static IP addresses for the all the SIM cards? This would help me a lot in remotely configuring the sensors. :)
  3. Apart for the telecoms setup costs, a monthly fee, and the telecoms bandwidth cost, what other costs should I take note of?
  4. I’m assuming because that because it’s my own private APN, I’ll have to provide a gateway to the internet? Can I setup this server myself or would I have to hire something? (Sorry for the silly question, I’m into development but my general IT knowledge is very poor :o)
  5. A quick Google search shows that there are plenty of providers for corporate APNs, can anyone recommend one? I’m basically looking for one of the cheaper ones at the moment.

    Thank-you for your time! :D

The last time I looked at corporate APN you needed to have a very expensive Diginet line from you to the mobile provider and the initial costs not to mention the monthly costs were pretty high. There are a lot more options now with ISPs who have corporate APNs in place who then resell that service which might be quicker and less expensive to get going.

Another option is to look at http://www.flickswitch.co.za/ which I think might be what you are after.

Hi There,
Flickswitch could do for you at this stage.

If you wish I can get MTN business to contact you as they would be able to assist you?

Regards

Tim

Hi Tim

I've just signed up to flickswitch, and I'm very happy so far.
I think I'll only get a corporate APN later down the line when my business grows a bit. Thanks for the offer :)
