What is the best deal at the moment for a basic, entry level, desktop without monitor? We are talking around R2,000. I live in Cape Town.

you may want to check out Matrix Warehouse
Their 'Rocket" and 'Morpheus' machines start at appx. R1699 and R1999 respectively excl. OS.
I can tell you they offer very competitive pricing compared to some of the wholesale pricing.
Another option is CafeViva, not sure on their pricing right now.
