Can someone please help me with a Labour Contract dilemma?

We have had serious labour issues at work recently and on tuesday our manager had to appear at an arbitration hearing at the offices of the MEIBC. before he went to see them he gave almost all the guys working in the factory a contract they had to sign (for some it was the first contract in 14 yrs of working there), he also tossed one to me to go through and sign at my leisure.

When i signed up in 2000 i signed a contract with them and going through this new contract i prefer the old contract. The new contract is as per the Labour Depatment/SEESA website give or take a few paragraphs and i am not so happy with some of the terms laid down in the contract so am not sure if i should sign it or not.

What can or must i do regarding the new contract as i am already on a contract with the company?

thanks.

As you've said, you already have a contract.

You have two choices:

1. simply tear up the new one and never speak of it again
2. hand in the new contract

If the new contract is brought up by management again, then that is your opportunity
to tell them that you are satisfied with the first or that you have questions regarding the new contract.

thanks buddy, i was thinking i will hand back the new one and say i am happy with the old one even though the new one has some nice clauses in it but ya i can live without them.

The company cannot unilaterally amend your existing contract.

the contract i was given was just the Basic Conditions of Employment papers set out by SEESA and my manager never filled anything in with regards to what i must or must not do so it was basically blank. The old one spelt out my hours of work and 15 days leave whereas this new one says 21 days leave but i can work around that.
