basic vs dynamic disk

Ok, so i purchsed the OCZ vertex 4 256GB ssd, but when i boot up in bios it only shows my ssd, and not my normal hdd, however when i put the ssd into the 2nd sata6 slot it only shows me the hdd. Anyway when i go under disk management in the pc itself i can see the ssd that has not been partitioned yet, and when i left click on it i have the option to either convert it to a dynamic disk or basic disk. I want to install windows on the ssd and use my normal hdd as storage. what should i select?
 
Stick to basic. Use advanced only when forced to do so, like when you have too many disks for basic or when running a software striped/mirrored/JBOD config.
 
ok but now how do i sort out my issue of only a single disk reading in bios (when trying to establish boot priority)? or would setting it as basic do the job?
 
If windows is picking up the SSD in disk management from your regular disk both are being picked up correctly. Are you maybe not looking in the wrong spot to select the boot disk,new Bioses use 2 parts. 1 Selects the type of device,and 1 selects the priority for harddrives

When i go to set the boot priority it will only show me the dvd rom and 1 of the hard drives, depending on where its plugged in the mobo sata slots. If the ssd is plugged in the 1st slot then it will only show me the ssd, but if the hdd is plugged in the first slot then it only shows me the hdd (even though both are plugged in.). Surely it should allow me to pick which ever 1 i want to use as a first boot priority?

YOU NEED TO DO TWO THINGS

SELECT PRIORITY AS HARDDRIVES ( you did this ) AND SELECT THE RIGHT HARDDRIVE AS PRIMARY IN A SEPERATE MENU
 
Have no idea if my mobo offers that option as I have never seen it. Will look for it, but as far as I remember I have never seen that option.

Put it on your flash drive and update the SSD firmware to the latest, 1.5 for your SSD. Then do a secure erase since it sounds like you have formatted it already. Then after you have finished shutdown the Pc, disconnect your hard drive and remove the flash drive. Switch on your Pc and insert your Windows 7 DVD, then boot off the DVD and install Windows 7 on the SSD. Reconnect the hard drive when finished installing Windows 7.


Never Full format the SSD!!!
Never Defragment the SSD!!!

As of yet I have not formatted the ssd, I haven't done anything with it. It only shows under the disk management.
 
ok, i updated firmware, found what you guys have been speaking about. will install later. shot for the help.
 
update:

i finally managed to get it to read when attempting to install windows on it. I made it the 1st hard drive and my other hard drive the secondary hdd. set my dvdrom as 1st boot priority , booted off windows disk. installed windows. ssd ran for first time (so excited by now). shut down pc and restart it. change boot priority so the ssd gets it and then when i try to get into windows it comes up with an error message saying please select a valid disk drive. where do i go from here?

Updated update: had to set my bios back to factory default in order for it to work again, so i just changed everything from scratched and it seemed to work. start up is perfect...owe my word...once you go ssd you never go hdd ;)
