What the hell with these guys seriously, today I bought the retail copy for R499 from CNA, I checked the price on CDkeys this morning and that was somewhere around R240 (when converted from $19.00) but with a 55Gig download. I've got a capped line so I decided to spend the extra and get the retail copy. I started the installation and all 5 discs only installed 7.7Gigs, the rest (34Gigs) it wants to download! WTH! The retail package only says 'required internet connection to activate'not 'requires internet connection to install'.
:twisted:I feel ripped off but anyways, does anyone know a workaround for this? It seems as though all the files are contained on the discs (5 x around 6 Gigs), they just don't want to install.
 
That is the new way forward with companies that sell games.
I also feel ripped off after I had to download the whole Mortal Kombat X but oh well...
 
Within the next year or two, a retail copy will mean a DVD case with a little thank you note, download link, and a cdkey.
 
Best bet would be to copy someone's files. Where are you based?
 
Still pisses me off, I could've paid less than half the price if I knew I'd have to download it anyway. I'm from East London.
 
I do not understand what is on the discs as I have ordered the Limited Edition but because of the packaging debacle I am still waiting, so they sent me the key which was about a 34GB download. My download did restart 3 time during the 4 days I have downloaded so I guess they have pushed game updates which renders the rest of the disc data obsolete.

I have played it a bit but a couple of time while riding in the Bat Mobile, it just crashes without any explanation so I stopped playing until they release a patch which is dated for August some time.

Back to Batman, I would rather say that you should not start playing the game before the patch is released, so you have at least a month to download the game :wtf:

Back in the days I had the same issue with Homefront, had to bloody download 10GB on a 512kb line (and I had the retail copy).... it took ages to finish. (I assume you have the PC version).
 
What amazes me is that you guys purchased the game after all the crap feedback/reviews & it being pulled from the market :wtf:

Some guys pay to get kicked in the nuts by a dominatrix; there's no accounting for taste.
 
PC patch incoming for Batman: Arkham Knight

On Thursday news leaked that Warner Bros. needed at least another two months to work on the PC port for Batman: Arkham Knight. However, yesterday Warner Bros released a statement via Steam, saying they will release an "interim patch" in August.

"As an update, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Rocksteady and our partners are targeting an interim patch update for existing players to be released in August. This update will address many of the issues we listed in our June 27 update. We will provide additional details as we finalize that interim patch over the coming weeks.

We would like to thank you for your continued patience and invaluable feedback. We are continuing to monitor and listen for any additional issues and are driving towards a full update for everyone as quickly as we possibly can.

Why did you buy that only now? Do you know the game has massive issues?

It is stupid to have so little data on the disks, but a quick online search would have told you that you're in for a big download no matter what. You can try get the game for free by returning it to CNA and claiming that it's a broken game. WB instructed retailers to accept returns for the game, and only a handful of online stores have the ability to revoke Steam keys (local retailers not included).

Not for everyone. I haven't had any issues, and neither have the few people I know who are also playing Arkham Knight on PC.
 
Of course if I knew I wouldn't have bought it, I though that was implied by my original post. I had thought that the highest quota of data would be textures, models etc, no need to patch that right? I figured a 5gig patch at the most, guess I was wrong. I will try to return it, see what CNA says, hopefully I can purchase a new CD key online and activate my current download (downloading at night only using free Telkom data). Will let u guys know how it goes.

Why would you purchase a new Arkham Knight key if you manage to get a refund from CNA? Once the game is in your Steam library it's there to stay. As I mentioned, only a handful of online stores have the ability to revoke Steam keys, and our local retailers are not among them.

Yeah, I understood your original comment, I just feel guilty 'taking' the software if the return is accepted. Anyway, I suppose it's just a waste paying for something you already have especially when you've had to download the bulk of it.

Steam won't let you activate a product already present in your library anyway. If you buy another copy, give it to a friend. Or buy the season pass if you don't already have it.
