Rocksteady included a hook in the copy protection to catch out users of cracked version.

Rocksteady, developer of the acclaimed action title Batman: Arkham Asylum, has revealed a deliberate glitch in the PC version of the game has caught out gamers playing cracked versions of the game.

On September 4 a user by the name Cheshirec_the_cat posted on the Eidos forums requesting help with a problem he'd encountered with the PC version of the game.

"I've got a problem when it's time to use Batman's glide in the game. When I hold , like it's said to jump from one platform to another, Batman tries to open his wings again and again instead of gliding. So he fels down in a poisoning gas. If somebody could tel me, what should I do there," asked Cheshirec_the_cat.

Eidos admin Keir later responded, explaining why Cheshirec_the_cat was experiencing problems.

"The problem you have encountered is a hook in the copy protection, to catch out people who try and download cracked versions of the game for free.

Rocksteady 1 - 0 Pirates.

lol give it a week and there will be a fixed fixed fixed cracked copy.but man that is damn funny i wont lie : i can just picture the bloke sitting thinking 'wtf is wrong with this game'.

Lol like the Sims 2 Anti-Crack Glitch. But what if you dont want to play with the disc in your drive? (Or mounted Image)

Imagine the scene in that studio when they decided to programme that into the game. Bet they laughed their assses off!

That's like downloading the cracked version of a racing title and finding out halfway through a lap, you can't brake... lol!!!

Now what about us who want to make a legal copy for backup purposes?

Once again the honest consumer gets the shaft.

Bah that's the best they can come up with, bug in your moral code.....maybe the user was in frikking Bolivia......

Judging by his grasp of the English language and his handle... I doubt it...

The old excuse pirates use? :D

Anyway its mostly not possible to make backups of the console games therefore the original disks should be looked after. Just look at the widespread availability of chiped consoles, there is even some that advertised doing it on MyBB.

Catch 22: Make it easy to make backup disks and then most "users" will have pirate copies of the game instaed of purchasing the original game.

Which handle?

From above the actual developer made the statement to the user of the illegal copy, maybe you just misread the article?

Agree. I don't mind paying R300 for a game title but when your disks get damaged then its another R300.

Game developers don't care because overseas a game title is relative to the cost of a pizza.

Huh, not possible? Please explain? Its VERY easy making backups of Wii and Xbox 360 games.
